As with both games, the characters in them are extremely well-written and fleshed out and realistic. In real life you won't automatically vibe with people right away, even if you end up liking them. 

In a game with high stakes (it's said pretty quickly that the country is literally on the precipice of revolution), there isn't time for coddling. There are plenty of VNs that provide a complete and total escape from what actual interpersonal relationships look like, since that seems to be what you want. 

Also...it's just a VN--there's nothing really to impose any insecurities upon.
